My Comments notes for John Loftin
His will was probated in 1729. He mentioned John Lancaster, John Harris, Parsiler Newman and Oriah Smoot. Francis Brown and his wife Ruth were the administrators.

There are a lot of assumptions made regarding this will and the implied relationships but everything seems to fit so perfectly together.

1. Since he mentioned no wife or children, the deceased was probably a young man who never married and might typically therefore name mainly brothers and sisters in his will.

2. So it makes sense that the deceased is none other than John who was the minor son of Frances the widow who died in 1722. We know her son John was not yet 18 in 1722 so he was no more than about 24 in 1729.

3. That Oriah Smoot is probably the daughter Onah mentioned in Frances’ will.

4. That John Newman, the second son-in-law mentioned by Frances in her will (in addition to Francis Brown), may well have been the husband of Parsiler Newman now mentioned by John Loftin.

5. Finally, of course, that Francis Brown is common to both wills as the son-in-law of Frances and brother-in-law of John and from John’s will we know his wife was named Ruth and she of course would be John’s sister.
