Notes for Susan M (Spouse 1)
After discovering the marriage of yet another daughter of Dorothy's, Susan M, I decided she was worth further tracking, to see if anything interesting turned up. In the 1860 Census she is living in Petersburg (not far from the Lawthers) with her husband. He is age 50, she 35 and 5 children are listed in this order: Thadeus 10, Juliet 8, George 7, William Jr. 24 and Virginia 18. The latter two children based on their ages and the order of their listing (usually children are simply listed oldest to youngest) implies they were William“s by a previous marriage. William is an engineer (railroad), like his brother-in-law.
In 1870, she is now only 40, William is 61 and still living with them are: Juliet 17, George 16 and Frederick 31, engineer — a possible additional son from a previous marriage. They are still in Petersburg.
In 1900, she is 70, says she was born in May 1830 and she lives with married daughter Juliet and her husband Jake (sp?) Robertson and several children, one of whose names is Suzy, born about 1891. This is interesting because Mary remembers, in addition to ”cousins• Hattie Maddux Barrow and Mabel Tillar — descendants of Susan's sister Martha Jane -- another ”cousin• Susie R Turner. We believe, and will look for more evidence, that Suzy Robertson is one and the same with the Susie R Turner Mary remembers.
Research notes for Susan M (Spouse 1)
Ann Wilkerson descends from Susan and William Bowen and has notes summarizing her great aunt Janey’s history of the family.
Janey says Dorothy was Dorothy Revel and married Burwell Harrison and they had four daughters.
The one I didn’t about was Rebecca who married Welton.
