Parent-Proof notes for Patrick Lynch
Robert Barnes shows Robuck and wife Mary as the parents of Patrick.
My Comments notes for Patrick Lynch
Robert Barnes says this about the Lynch Family:
"The earliest reference is to Marcus Lynch who leaves land to ‘kinsman’ Robuck Lynch which Robuck's children - William, Patrick and Mary -- sell in 1728. Robuck was listed as a taxable in 1694 in BAL Co; his will [16 Jun 1714 -12 Nov 1716] names wife Mary, minor child Patrick and children Anne, William and Mary.” There is strange language in the will that if Patrick won't live with his mother-in-law, then he forgoes his inheritance. I believe the term mother-in-law refers to Mary and implies she was Robuck’s second wife, thus having a different meaning then than the way we use it now.
Becky Curry writes about Roebuck Lynch: ”Patrick, believed to be his son, and William and Mary (Patrick’s siblings) patent ’Lydian’ 10 Jun 1734 as devised in Roebuck’s will. And somewhere we have seen a record of a Patrick Lynch from Lydicum, Ireland — though it is not our Patrick because the dates are wrong.”
The abstract of Robuck’s will is a little strange. It names his children as Anne, William and Mary and minor child Patrick and then says that if Patrick won’t live with his ”mother-in-law” until maturity, he forfeits his inheritance. But your mother-in-law nowadays is your spouse’s mother, not, say, your father’s second wife though perhaps that is what was meant.
Barnes adds this about Patrick. “Patrick, son of Robuck married first in 1722 Martha Bowen, daughter of Jonas, and married second 20 Apr 1747 Avarilla Taylor Day, widow of Edward Day. Patrick seems to have fathered at least one if not two illegitimate children. His will was dated 17 Jun 1766 proved 25 Aug 1766. Patrick had issue, all by first wife: Martha b.28 Jun 1725 (married to Mr. Acton upon Patrick’s death and married to Mr. Cretin upon its administration 15 May 1770), Robuck, Ann, Flora and Mary.”
The marriage of Patrick Lynch and Martha Bowen in 1722 of St Paul’s Parish is cited by Robert W Barnes in his ”Maryland Marriages” book.
Parent-Proof notes for Martha (Spouse 1)
Martha Bowen is known as the daughter of Jonas and wife of Patrick Lynch as this is stated in her father's will.
Her marriage to Patrick Lynch is also documented by Robert Barnes in his Maryland Marriages book.
