He was named as the son of John Jacob in his 1773 will.

He settled near what became Rolling Green when he came from Berks County.

1800. Penns Twp age 26-45, 3 sons under 10 none over. Aren’t the three sons Benjamin, Jacob F and Samuel, where is John born 1799?

1810. Penns Twp age 26-45, 2 sons under 10, 3 10-16. Same problem, only 3 sons 10-16.

1820. Penns Twp age 45+, 1 son under 10, 1 18-26. This older son could be Benjamin.

1830. Seems to be missing.

1840. Penns Twp age 70-80.

He is listed as an additional taxable -- I think in 1797 or 1799 -- in Penns Twp. Frederick, shoemaker.

Much of the information I have about John Frederick and his descendants comes from Joseph A Meiser and he attributes certain of his information to Charles A Fisher.

There is a wonderful deed written in 1844 and recorded in 1847 saying Frederick Hummel died intestate and Michael Hummel, presumably an heir, is now buying the land from Frederick’s other heirs: Jacob F and wife Margaret, Samuel, John and wife Susannah, John St Clair and Elizabeth his wife, Henry Sheets and Sarah Ann his wife and Edward and the heirs of Benjamin. Some of the land had been acquired by Frederick from Jacob Becker in 1804. Benjamin’s heirs were: Benjamin, Elizabeth, John and Catherine.

It is the naming of John’s wife Susannah which I take as proof that John Hummel of Freeburg whose wife was Susanna Hilbish -- was John Frederick’s son.

1850. Elizabeth Hummel, age 80, lives with son Michael.
