Research notes for Joseph (Spouse 1)
Joseph Scott died before 12 Jun 1751 in Northampton County, NC. Not much more is known about him. His wife, at least at the time of his death, was named Sarah who died after 27 Aug 1756. His (and her?) children initiated a court proceeding against her whereby she had to account for her handling of Joseph’s estate, including specifically to account for proceeds from the sale of his slaves.
I do not know much more about Joseph but there was an early Joseph Scott of Perquimons Precinct, NC who had come there from Nansemond County, VA and was apparently Quaker. His will was dated 26 Oct 1685 but it has been declared undecipherable. At least one son Joshua is named. My speculation would be that Joseph of Northampton County was perhaps the son or grandson of Joseph of Perquimons. If so, then the Scotts are another family who followed the England (probably) to Colonial Virginia down into North Carolina and on to Sampson (Duplin) migration route.
