Relocated notes for Ida Jane Moores
This is from Marsha. She is not to be found on ship's lists and not clear how she got here or whether she was actually naturalized. There is a hint of a big family secret here as the reasons this family came to America were never discussed, nor is it clear how she got here.
My view is more that things were quite normal, I’m not sure women of that era had to be naturalized.
My Comments notes for Ida Jane Moores
Marsha Newell is the source for all information on Ida Jane and Caleb and their ancestors.
Ida Jane died at Marsha's house in Westwood on the occasion of Uncle Ches' 75th (?) birthday.
She is listed as a servant in the 1900 Census, living in Cambridge.
Her siblings include: Naomi Davis (mother of Herb Davis married Grace and Larry Davis).
Another sibling was Jack Moores
Research notes for Caleb Saunders (Spouse 1)
I have been in contact with Anne Newell Edge who lives near Montreal and is descended from John Thomas Newell, Caleb’s brother.
My Comments notes for Caleb Saunders (Spouse 1)
Siblings: Annie, married MacIllhenny (pronunciation spelling), lived outside Toronto. Lucinda, married Harry Lane
The 1900 Census for MA lists Caleb Newell as a boarder with John Dwyer. It says born in Canada (Eng) -- maybe meaning English speaking part of Canada. He is living at 228 Webster Ave, Cambridge.
Birth may have been 1876. It is St Johns per family tradition.
Came to US, port of Boston, 4/6/1893, naturalized 9/27/1899. Was living at Widsor (Windsor) St, Cambridge when naturalized and described as laborer, alien, free white.
Saunders was a common Newfoundland surname but the connection is not yet clear.
