J L Floyd gives the biography of Daniel P Hilbish. It says that though he always resided in Freeburg, and farmed the “old Hilbish homestead” that in 1846 he bought a farm in Point Twp later owned and farmed by his son John A. As to the old homestead, Daniel’s son Samuel G took it over and it now (1910) has been in the family 125 years and that it was all forest when taken up by his grandfather Peter.

The 1846 date is interesting because this is about the same time that George Peter Mertz, also of Freeburg, removed to Point Township. The reference to 125 years is a little exaggerated, it was more like 110 years.
