Christiana is believed to have been the daughter of Abraham Enloes. He died in 1709 and when he wrote his will he knew his wife was pregnant but of course did not know the gender or name of his child to be. But he referred to his yet unborn child. Robert Barnes makes the case that Abraham was the only logical candidate to be her father.

I have considered the problem of how to establish some real proof that Christiana was the unborn child.

When was she born, 1710? If I could prove she was born in 1710, that would be compelling. We first find mention of her from her marriage in 1735 to Thomas Wright. You might think from that she was born a little later than 1710, but a 1710 birth can’t be ruled out. I have looked for a death record or tombstone (few survive from that period) with no luck. So that is one open issue.

Did Enloes Meadow go to daughter Margaret? If so, that proves that the unborn child was female, else it would have gone to Abraham’s unborn male child. The problem is that if and when Enloes Meadow was sold, it may have been sold by Margaret and her husband and that makes it impossible to go to the Grantor indexes for property records and know what name to look for. I can verify that no one named Enloes sold that tract, at least that I can find -- but the absence of a record proves nothing.

The birth of Thomas Wright was recorded in the records of Somerset Parish, which I found on-line. “Thomas Wright the sonne of Bloyce Wright was borne of Sarah his mother at Little Mony the 29th day July Ano Dom 1703.” He was also named as his eldest son in the 1733 will of Bloyce Wright and as his grandson in the 1717 will of Thomas Holbrook.

”Baltimore County Families” by Robert Barnes is the source of much of my information on Thomas including dates and places and the fact that he is the father of Bloyse (citing his will as evidence) and the fact this his parents were Bloyse and Sarah (again citing a will as evidence).

Carol Menges, in her Ancestry World Tree, has the line: Thomas, son of Bloyce and grandson of William, with which I agree. But she says Thomas died Feb 1753 in Somerset County MD (he actually died in 1739 in BAL Co) and that he married Rebecca Harris in 1725 with whom he had two daughters. There are other trees which have picked up this version of events from Carol and some Internet trees that show only Christiana Enloes as his wife and finally there is one tree which says Rebecca was his first wife and Christiana his second -- but has no real evidence to say whether it is proven. I haven’t pursued this but my hunch is that she has merged events from the lives of two different men named Thomas Wright.

Robert Barnes wrote: ”Thomas was born 29 Jul 1703 at Little Mony, Somerset County, died 1739 in Baltimore County, married 5 May 1735 Christiana Enloes. She was born in 1710, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth who, after Thomas died, married second William Standiford. Thomas’ estate entered administration 6 Jun 1739 and in 1747, his orphan children were said to be Bloyse and Elizabeth.”

The records of St George and St John’s Parish of Harford County document key dates for this family including the marriage of Thomas and Christiana and the birth on 17 Nov 1735 of Bloys Wright, son of Thomas and Christian.

Christiana’s marriage to William Standiford is listed twice in the records for St. John’s Parish. In one case, she is named Christiannah and that marriage is dated Nov 1739. But then their marriage, in this case her name was listed as Stehannah, was also given as having occurred 8 Dec 1740. Both records also then show the birth of twins -- Aquilla and his sister Averilla -- which either was 24 Aug 1740 or 24 Aug 1741. There also was a William born possibly Nov 1742 and Abraham in 1745.
These four children would be Bloys Wright’s step-brothers and -sisters. As his mother married when he was about 5, he would have thought of them as close family.
