Dan Mertz said: “My grandmother, Bertha Reed, comes from, I think, Berks County.  She was a grand lady!  Educated at Bucknell.  Taught school, but spent the majority of her working life raising the children.  She was an accomplished chef in her own home, and won many Pennsylvania State Fair blue ribbons for her culinary preparations.  Food!  The family business!  I found it interesting that, at my grandfather's passing, she moved from the farm to Lewisburg where she spent the last ten years of her long life in assisted living, never needing to work for pay a single day.”
