Obit: “Raymond Barrie Mertz, 79, of Hickory Road, Turbotville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, at the Gatehouse Hospice.
He was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Williamsport, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Park) Mertz. On May 19, 1973, he married the former Mary A. St.Clair and they have celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Raymond was a 1957 graduate of Watsontown High School and served two years with the Army.
He retired from the former Moore Business Forms, Lewisburg where he had worked for 40 years.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville.
Ray was an avid Penn State fan, enjoyed working on cars, fishing, hunting and watching NASCAR races. He was a devoted father and grandfather and loved attending his children and grandchildren's sports and school activities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert A. Mertz and his companion Merlene Cox of Mifflinburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly A. and Harold Raup of Turbotville and Jodie R. and Matthew Haggerty of Stroudsburg; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Jerrod, and Jacob Mertz, Brooks Raup and his wife Casie, Tyler and Hunter Raup, and James and Jessica Haggerty; one great-granddaughter, Madison Mertz; two stepgrandchildren, Wade and Chad Rathfon; three stepgreat-grandsons, Cody, Mason, and Randy Rathfon; and one brother, Robert (Betty Jane) Mertz of Pottsgrove.
He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Cindy Mertz in April 2018; two brothers, Ned and Jay Mertz; and one half sister, Evelyn Mertz.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Turbotville Cemetery.
