He is listed in the household of Rev John Allen Mertz in the 1900 and 1910 Census and his name is on some research material discussing the efforts of his father to document the early Hilbish/Hollenbush family of Montgomery County -- of which these Mertzes are descendants as a result of the marriage of Peter P Mertz of Freeburg to Susanna Hilbish also of Freeburg.

In 1930, he is married and living in Easton, PA, a Presbyterian Clergyman.
